New facility increases share of renewable energy in the region

A wind power plant (WPP) with a capacity of 500 MW has been commissioned in Uzbekistan. This is the largest facility of this type in Central Asia. The power plant is located in the Zarafshan district of the Navoi region.

The project was implemented by Masdar from the United Arab Emirates. There are 111 turbines installed at the station, each with a capacity of 4.5 MW. It is expected that the WPP will be able to generate 1.6 billion kWh of electricity annually, which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.1 million tons per year.

The power plant is connected to the national power grid of Uzbekistan and is designed to provide electricity to both local consumers and to maintain the stability of the energy supply in the country.

The project is part of Uzbekistan’s national program for the development of renewable energy sources. It is planned that by 2030 the share of “green” energy in the country’s energy balance will reach 25%.
