TotalEnergies Commissions Solar Power Plant Near Seville

French energy company TotalEnergies has launched a solar power plant near Seville (Spain). The installed capacity of the facility is 263 MW, making it the company’s largest solar project in Europe.

Technical parameters of the plant

  • The power plant consists of five sites equipped with 400,000 bifacial solar panels with sun tracking systems.
  • Expected annual output is 515 GWh.
  • Most of the electricity will be supplied under long-term contracts (PPA), the rest will be sold on the wholesale market.

The role of the facility in the Spanish energy system

According to the operator Red Eléctrica, as of January 2025, the installed capacity of solar generation in Spain exceeded 32 GW, which is 26.7% of the country’s total energy balance. TotalEnergies’ project is in line with the government’s plan to achieve 80% of renewable energy in electricity generation by 2030.

TotalEnergies’ position in the renewable energy sector

As of March 2025, the company’s total renewable energy capacity was 28 GW. By the end of 2025, TotalEnergies plans to increase this figure to 35 GW. By 2030, the company intends to produce more than 100 TWh of electricity from renewable sources. TotalEnergies previously stated its goal of achieving 100 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2030, but this wording is not used in current communications.

In Spain, TotalEnergies is developing an integrated energy infrastructure, including solar power plants and gas capacities to ensure stable electricity supplies. The company employs 1,700 people in the country.
