LONGi Continues To Strengthen Its Position In The Global Solar Industry

23 April 2025

LONGi continues to strengthen its position in the global solar industry by setting new efficiency records for solar cells. The latest achievement of 27.81% efficiency for heterojunction cells with HIBC (Heterojunction Interdigitated Back Contact) technology has been confirmed by the German ISFH Institute and is approaching the theoretical limit for silicon cells (29.4%).

Key points:

New efficiency record – 27.81% (lab conditions, full-size cell).

Growth dynamics:

  • May 2023: 27.3%
  • Subsequent stages: 27.4% → 27.52% → 27.63% → 27.81%

Cell parameters:

  • Short-circuit current: 5698 mA
  • Open-circuit voltage: 744.9 mV
  • Fill factor: 87.55%

Why is this important?

  • Reducing energy costs: Every 1% increase in efficiency reduces the overall system cost by more than 5% (according to LONGi President Li Zhengguo).
  • Technological choice: Unlike competitors (TOPCon, HJT), LONGi relies on reverse contact (HPBC/HIBC), which has already led to a record for the module (25.4% in 2023).
  • Progress in Tandem Cells: In June 2023, LONGi achieved 34.6% efficiency in hybrid perovskite-silicon cells.

Outlook

LONGi demonstrates that silicon PV is far from its efficiency ceiling, and innovations in cell architecture (HIBC, tandem solutions) continue to drive down the cost of solar energy. This strengthens China’s position as an industry leader and accelerates the global transition to renewable energy.

Conclusion: LONGi’s latest record confirms that solar energy continues to get cheaper, and next-generation technologies are on the way.
