ReNew Energy Global Plc Starts Construction Of Hybrid Renewable Energy Facility In Andhra Pradesh

30 May 2025

Indian energy company ReNew Energy Global Plc (ReNew) has started construction of a hybrid renewable energy facility in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. Upon completion, the facility will have an installed capacity of 2.8 GW, including 1.8 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind power, as well as an energy storage system (ESS) with a capacity of 2 GWh. The investment in the project is estimated at US$ 2.5 billion.

The first phase of construction envisages commissioning of 587 MW of solar and 250 MW of wind power, as well as an ESS of 415 MWh. Power purchase agreements (PPA) have already been signed for these capacities.

The ESS will enable the supply of electricity for 4 hours daily during peak periods. The project will use Indian-made solar panels from ReNew’s factories in Jaipur (Rajasthan) and Dholera (Gujarat). Solar tracking systems and waterless robotic panel cleaning will also be used.

ReNew’s total portfolio of renewable energy projects is 17.4 GW.

In April 2024, the company commissioned a 1.3 GW solar power plant in Jaisalmer district (Rajasthan). Electricity is supplied at a tariff of INR 2.18 per kWh.

In March 2024, ReNew became one of the winners of a competitive selection of renewable energy projects with the condition of round-the-clock power supply. The tariff following the selection was INR 4.82 per kWh.
