Trina Solar Unveiled New Tandem Solar Module

4 April 2025

Trina Solar has developed a tandem solar module based on perovskite and crystalline silicon with an area of 3.1 m². The 210 mm module is certified by the TÜV SÜD test laboratory, its peak power is 808 W. This is the first industrial module of a standard size, the power of which exceeded 800 W.

The company has filed 331 patent applications related to tandem and perovskite technologies. In 2024, Trina Solar ranked fourth among the world’s solar panel suppliers.

Earlier, in December 2024, the company set a record for the efficiency of heterojunction (HJT) cells – 27.08%. Trina Solar also released a solar module made entirely from recycled materials.
The efficiency of crystalline silicon cells is approaching the limit, so tandem structures (perovskite / silicon) are considered a promising direction. The theoretical limit of their efficiency is 43%. The efficiency data for the record-breaking module is not specified.

In China, active development of tandem and perovskite solar cells is underway. Several gigawatt-scale perovskite module manufacturing plants are under construction or have already been commissioned.
