Zeekr Announces 1.2MW Charger

10 April 2025

Chinese automaker Zeekr (a division of Geely) has announced plans to release a new charger with a peak power of 1.2MW. It is expected to be one of the most powerful in the world.

Key Features:

  • Full liquid cooling – used to maintain stable operation under high loads.
  • 1.2MW power – exceeds the previous Zeekr models (800kW) and the BYD charger (1MW).
  • Station configuration – the company is considering installing 10 such devices at a single charging station.
  • Presentation – scheduled for the Shanghai Auto Show in April.

Current state of the ultra-fast charging market

In 2023, Zeekr introduced 800kW chargers (V3). In March 2024, BYD announced a 1MW charging system as part of the Super e-Platform. In Europe, the Tesla V4 supports up to 350 kW, while networks like Ionity support up to 400–500 kW.

Industry implications

Charging speeds can reach 400 km of range in 5 minutes (according to BYD). Chinese manufacturers are actively developing ultra-fast charging infrastructure.

Conclusion

Zeekr and other automakers are increasing the power of chargers. Questions remain about the compatibility of such systems with existing EVs and their impact on battery life.
